After relieving our activists from the Hay Point coal loader, the Esperanza has ended the 3 day blockade of Queensland coal exports and is heading north for Cairns. We’re holding an open boat on Sunday to talk to the public about Rudd’s failure, and about the next steps in the campaign for real action on climate change.
It has been a huge week for the activists who took direct action in solidarity with our Pacific neighbours on the frontline of climate change. Starting at Abbot Point on Tuesday morning and finishing late last night at Hay Point, the Greenpeace action team have been an inspiration. The outcome of the Pacific Island Forum was a disaster for the climate and the Pacific (our political team will be doing a full analysis and update soon) but we hope that our actions have helped to highlight Rudd’s hypocrisy.
Rudd’s rhetoric about climate change and the Pacific could have come straight off the Greenpeace website, but his actual policies are still being written by the coal industry.
From here, the campaign will continue in the lead up to the Copenhagen climate summit in December.
