The Economist calls it “The Inconvenient Truth about the oceans”. It’s The End of the Line, a riveting major documentary that investigates the overfishing crisis facing our oceans. This fascinating documentary will soon be showing in Melbourne, Hobart, Adelaide, Newcastle and Sydney.

The End of the Line documents the massive demand for bluefin tuna that could well lead to its ultimate extinction; the impact on marine life resulting in huge overpopulation of jellyfish; and the profound implications of a future world with no fish that would bring certain mass starvation. It’s enough to make you feel very differently about your sushi.

Thankfully it isn’t all murky doom and gloom. The End of the Line presents the simple solutions that can keep our oceans healthy and save us from this bleak future. These include a vast network of marine reserves, a reduction in fishing and educated shoppers  — the very solutions that Greenpeace is campaigning for.

It’s well worth a view. Session times are below and more info on the official website.
