As you read this, I’m suspended from a streetlight, 15m off the ground, right outside Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull’s Sydney office. With fellow volunteer, Christina, who is on another streetlight next to me, we just safely hung a banner with a strong message that Turnbull can’t miss. Here’s what it looks like:
Turnbull’s legacy: Bleaching
Brought to you by Malcolm’s mates in the coal industry
Christina and I are doing all we can to send a loud and clear message to our PM, but we need your help to get this out. By sharing this with your networks, we can cause a collective flood on email and social media that can expose the truth behind Turnbull’s legacy to hundreds of thousands of fellow Australians. Can you share our message?
We’re up here because Turnbull’s government sat on their hands while the Great Barrier Reef has suffered the worst bleaching in its history. 22% of its coral has died. We know that burning coal is to blame, yet Turnbull continues to put the greedy interests of the coal industry ahead of our Reef.
I’m taking a stand and want you to be a part of it. Turnbull and his mates in the coal industry might have millions of dollars to spend on advertising and spin campaigns, but we have something greater – countless ordinary people like you and me, motivated by love not greed, standing together to protect our natural heritage.
What government in its right mind turns its back on one of most spectacular natural wonders of the world? The crazy thing is not all Australians know this is happening. Together, we can make sure as many people as possible know the truth ahead of the next election.
I’m not sure how long we’ll be up here, there are police down below, so we need you to help get the message out quick!
With one week left until the election, we can show Turnbull, and all our political leaders, that a dead Great Barrier Reef isn’t a legacy we’re willing to accept.
Thanks for making this big,
Kai and Christina
