“Certified ‘Green’ Schools: Savings & Benefits Fail To Materialize In North Carolina” is a report by the John Locke Foundation, a group known for denying climate change science and their close ties to the oil and gas billionaire Koch Brothers.

The report was written by Todd Myers of the Washington Policy Center, a group that shares Koch ties with the John Locke Foundation. Myers does not believe that carbon dioxide has an effect on the climate.

The United States Green Building Council has posted a response to the report which catalogues the report’s shortcomings and inconsistencies.

The John Locke Foundation and the Koch Brothers

The John Locke Foundation is also closely tied to millionaire heir and prominent conservative funder Art Pope. Art Pope, who denies climate change science, has provided up to 80% of the John Locke Foundation’s budget in recent years and has sat on the board of directors.

Other funders of the John Locke Foundation include:

  • The Charles G Koch Foundation – $67,472, 1997-2012
  • Claude R Lambe Foundation – $80,000, 1999-2005
  • State Policy Network – $50,000 in 2014
  • Donors Capital Fund/DonorsTrust – $928,250, 2007-2012

Both the Washington Policy Center and the John Locke Foundation are part of the State Policy Network, an umbrella group for a network of think tanks that share strategy and funders like the Koch Brothers.
