We’re all feeling the effects of the COVID-19 health crisis and the economic hardship that it has brought about. Some of us are suffering more than others. The pandemic arrived at a time when Australia and our Pacific neighbours were already reeling from an unprecedented climate crisis.
The response from all governments must be bold and tackle these challenges as one. They must be delivered in such a way as to keep as many people as possible healthy, safe, and certain of their future, starting with the most vulnerable. That means safeguarding our planet must be a priority.
The enormous opportunity to address the economic impacts of COVID-19 and climate change simultaneously is unprecedented. So what should we do? Here’s Greenpeace’s policy discussion paper addressing the opportunities and threats that our current circumstances present. Have a read, talk to your mates about it, or better yet, book a meeting with your local political representative and ask them to work for the Australia you want to see on the other side of COVID-19.
